Harvest Festival:

Celebrations from late August to late October

The Harvest Festival is celebrated at harvest time with over 2,000 events in Salzburg. Tradition, customs and old crafts are brought to new life. Hike from alp to alp and experience one of the merry cattle drives. Or ride the Salzburg cycle paths to the stations of the Harvest Festival, the many festivals and farmers’ markets.

After a happy alpine summer at the end of September, in many places the cows are festively decorated with flowers and driven home to their farm. Of course there is a lot of “singing, playing, dancing and plattering”! Customs, music and dance (“shoe platters”) are lived joy here. There are also plenty of culinary delicacies, such as Germkrapfen, “Bauernschöpsernes”, “Blattln”. The whole village is there, let yourself be infected by the happiness and simply celebrate with us!

Harvest Festival is traditional culture:

According to old custom, the bringing in of the harvest in October is celebrated in a special way. Thanksgiving includes a solemn procession with the elaborately decorated harvest crown.

The handicrafts that can be admired in many places at the various festivals during the Harvest Festival are a living tradition. Have you ever watched the making of wooden shingles, the embroidering of a quill pen or the tying of an alpine wreath?
